How to Fix Problems with Parallel Sentence Structure

The most effective method to Fix Problems with Parallel Sentence Structure The Common Core, just as bits of many state administered tests, requireâ students to perceive and improve ineffectively developed sentences. It’s significant for understudies to comprehend what issues show up as often as possible inside these sentencesâ in request to improve their odds of scoring great. One normal sentence issue includes non-equal structure. What Is Parallel Structure in a Sentence or Phrase? Equal structure includes utilizing a similar example of words or a similar voice in a rundown of things or thoughts. By utilizing equal structure, the essayist demonstrates that the entirety of the things in the rundown are of equivalent significance. Equal structure is significant in the two sentences and expressions. Instances of Problems with Parallel Structure Issues with equal structure typically happen after a planning combination, for example, or and. Most are a consequence of blending ing words and infinitive expressions or blending dynamic and detached voice. Blending Gerunds and Infinitive Phrases Ing words are action word frames that end with the letters - ing. Running, hopping, and coding are for the most part ing words. The accompanying two sentences effectively use ing words in equal structure: Bethany appreciates heating cakes, treats, and brownies. She doesn’t like washing dishes, pressing garments, or wiping the floor. Theâ sentence beneath  is mistaken, in any case, since it blends ing words (preparing, making) and an infinitive expression (to eat out): Bethany likes to eat out,â baking cakes, and making sweets. This sentence contains an unparallel blend of an ing word and a thing: She doesn’t like washing garments or housework. Be that as it may, this sentence contains two ing words: She doesn’t like washing garments or doing housework. Blending Active and Passive Voice Journalists can accurately utilize either the dynamic or the detached voicebut blending the two, particularly in a rundown, is inaccurate. In a sentence that utilizes the dynamic voice, the subject plays out an activity; in a sentence that utilizes the uninvolved voice, the activity is performed regarding the matter. For instance: Dynamic voice: Jane ate the doughnut. (Jane, the subject, demonstrations by eating the doughnut.) Detached voice: The doughnut was eaten by Jane. (The doughnut, the subject, is followed up on by Jane.) Both of the above models are actually right. Be that as it may, this sentence is off base in light of the fact that the dynamic and aloof voices are blended: The chief told the on-screen characters that they ought to get a great deal of rest, that they ought not eat excessively, and to do some vocal activities before the show. An equal form of this sentence may peruse: The executive told the on-screen characters that they ought to get a ton of rest, that they ought not eat excessively, and that they ought to do some vocal activities before the show. Equal Structure Problems in Phrases Parallelism is fundamental in full sentences as well as in phrases, also: The British Museum is a brilliant spot to see antiquated Egyptian workmanship, find beautifulâ textiles from aroundâ theâ world, andâ you can investigate African curios. This sentence sounds jerky and out of equalization, doesn’t it? That’s in light of the fact that the expressions are not equal. Presently read this: The British Museum is a brilliant spot where you can discover old Egyptian workmanship, investigate African ancient rarities, and find excellent materials from around the globe. Notice that each expression has an action word and an immediate article. Parallelism is fundamental when a progression of words, considerations, or thoughts show up in one sentence. In the event that you experience a sentence that just sounds off-base or awkward, search for conjunctions like and, or, at the same time, but to decide if the sentence is wobbly.

My Last Dutchess Essay Questions free essay sample

The Duke starts at that point thinking back about the picture meetings, about the Duchess herself and her disgusting conduct of being excessively handily dazzled, treating everybody similarly, and everybody loving her to such an extent. He guarantees she played with everybody and didn't completely value his â€Å"gift of 900 years of age name†. As the monolog goes on, â€Å"[he] provided orders;/Then all grins halted together. † and the peruser is educated that the Duke was the person who caused his wife’s early passing, because of his possessiveness, dominancy and envy. After this is all finished, the Duke keeps on making arrangements to locate another spouse at the earliest opportunity, and looks to wed the Count of Tyrol’s girl, anyway with the proof gave in the sonnet we realize that the Count will find the unbearable possessiveness and risky dominancy of the Duke that he won't permit this to occur. As this data of the Duke is let out to the general population, he will have no future spouses; accordingly the Duchess he has once in the past slaughtered was for sure his last. 2. Fra Pandolf is the Italian craftsman that caught the whole magnificence of the Duke’s last Duchess. We know this in light of the fact that as it peruses â€Å"Fra Panolf’s hands worked hectically a day, and there she stands. †, demonstrating that Pandolf was to be sure the one to paint this grand image of the late spouse. Likewise it peruses â€Å"Will’t please you sit and take a gander at her? I said ‘Fra Pandolf’ by design,†, as the Duke is portraying the brilliant painting of his previous spouse referencing his name as the craftsman. 3. â€Å"Since none puts by the drapery I have drawn for you yet I†. This expression portrays the unadulterated male dominancy and control the Duke needed over his significant other when she was alive. Until further notice that she is dead, and all that’s left of her is the picture on the arrival that he controls who see’s and appreciates by covering it with a dark drapery. At the point when the Duchess was alive, she was so jaunty and blameless and everybody preferred her and the Duke abhorred that in this way, he murdered her out of desire. He attempted to do the outlandish of restraining the un-controllable and when it didn’t work, he eradicated the issue, being her. Since she is currently secured by this drape and no one else can control the noteworthy of the work of art, the Duke got what he needed, absolute control. This says a great deal regarding the character of the speaker since he is thought of to be unfeeling and psycho by needing such authority over his better half. 4. The â€Å"spot of joy† is basically an uncommon sort of look that the Duchess has to her that is one of a kind and radiant. Everybody enjoys the Duchess for her chipper character and her capacity to treat everybody in any case, likewise for her thankfulness, since she acknowledged anything anybody gave her. The Duke was totally envious of these parts of the Duchess and disdained her since individuals preferred her so much and in light of the fact that she treated him simply equivalent to every other person. She was an extremely special and lovely animal, yet the Duke thought she was dimwitted and a trollop since she â€Å"flirted† with everybody when truly she was simply acting naturally, kind and cordial. 5. The tone of the sonnet is unpleasant on the grounds that it being told by the Duke, whom is very envious of the consideration his better half was getting and despises what she resembled, over-grateful and excessively decent. Yet, after she is dispensed with, he feels fulfilled on the grounds that she is good and gone and in light of the fact that he has her picture on the arrival, no one but he can control who sees her and makes the most of her now. By and large, the Duke is commonly severe towards the Duchess and loathes the way that his significant other even had any consideration whatsoever. 6. The exacting importance of the line â€Å"I provided orders † is that the Duke cautioned the Duchess that on the off chance that she didn't hear him out and quit acting the manner in which she acted around everybody †dimwitted, sweet and guiltless, that he would end things. This line of the story gives us a consoling inclination that there is in fact a major issue with the Duke, as he is so extraordinarily possessive and predominant, and that he is the foundation of underhandedness in the story. We find from this line also that the Duchess had no real option except to either give up to his control or to keep acting naturally and be executed. By and by, I think she settled on the correct choice of not tuning in to the Duke since she would have lived as a phony and would need to live with the blame of quitting any pretense of everything, including her character, to him. . The essentialness of the reference to Neptune is the imagery of fierce male control of the excellent and characteristic. As the Duke is amazingly chilly, possessive and controlling over his wonderful spouse and wishes to have her shown behind a dark window ornament that solitary he controls who see’s after he has perished, he legitimately shows his qualities of fierce male power. In like manner, in the representation of Neptune restraining a seahorse that the Duke has held tight the divider may respect to the equivalent severe male authority of attempting to tame the excellent and regular. The two characters show their unfeeling characters and having no regret for what they have done, being remorseless, childish and materialistic individuals. 8. Indeed, I do feel that the creator is attempting to reveal to us something important to us through the story, and that is human possessiveness, not especially over others, however cash and materials. We ponder what we have, and the things we own start to claim us, we at that point do whatever we can to hold command over these things, by not allowing others to people or use them, or keep them covered up in light of the fact that we like to save them for ourselves. For instance, I have this pair of hide boots that I am infatuated with and I won't let any of my companions obtain them or give them a shot since they are sacrosanct to me. This model can contrast with the story in light of the fact that the Duke is excessively fixated on his better half and needing full oversight over her, he will take the necessary steps to understand that power to cause her to do whatever he wishes. We as people additionally appreciate having this benefit of being in the board over individuals and items, it’s our method of feeling significant and is once in a while bravo esteem†¦ however to an extreme, as in the story, is unfortunate and could cause outrageous repercussions.

What is Meant by the Term Modern Art

Asking What is modern art? is a very good (and very common)  question. While its a bit complicated, the single most important thing anyone needs to know about Modern Art is that its different from Contemporary Art. That said, no one should be  sneered at for not knowing that the art world has its own separate definitions for both contemporary and modern times. In any other instance, the English language pretty much allows for modern and contemporary to be swapped at will. Modern Art Versus Contemporary Art A good rule of thumb is: Modern Art: Art from the Impressionists (say, around 1880) up until the 1960s or 70s, including modern styles of realism art.Contemporary Art: Art from the 1960s or 70s up until this very minute. You could say that Modern Art began just as the Impressionists were winding down. While this is an acceptable classification, strong arguments can be (and have been) made that Modern Art began at a variety of different dates. Depending on which survey course a person takes, Modern Art is said to have begun with either: Romanticism, in the early 1800s,Realism, in the 1830s,Daguerres announcement, in 1839, that he had invented a method for making a direct positive image,The writer Baudelaire who, in 1846, called upon artists to be of their time,The first Impressionist show in 1874 orThe -isms of the 1880s (Tonal-, Symbol-, Post-Impression- and Neo-Impression-) But which one is right? Its important to know that none of them are wrong. (Here, it was simply a case of 1880 working out well, for me, in terms of organization.) For simplicitys sake, lets just say that Modern Art began in the 19th-century, and ran through a whole slew of -isms up until the end of the 1960s. Regardless of chosen starting date, the crucial factor is that Modern Art means: The point at which artists (1) felt free to trust their inner visions, (2) express those visions in their work, (3) use real life (social issues and images from modern life) as a source of subject matter and (4) experiment and innovate as often as possible.

Investment (Stock-Trak) Essay Example

Investment (Stock-Trak) Essay When our investments class first started I knew very little about stocks, mutual funds and options but with every class that I took I started to understand exactly what each meant. This became very important in my research of companies to choose for stocks, mutual funds and options. I took a few things into consideration: the economy, the time of season, and the products the company is best known for; also from the companies chosen I look at their three month six month and one year overlook. This gave me a few companies to research to decide which would be best. The first bulk of stock that was purchased was with Akamai Technologies, which mainly specialize in speeding up a company’s websites by using their (Akamai) high speed network to increase download speed. Two of their biggest clients are Best Buy and Sony, which really set me in the â€Å"green† for my decision not to mention the fact that the company earned $860 million in revenue and $145. 9 in net income in 2009. From a technical standpoint, I discovered Akamai’s internet traffic footprint is large. The company operates the worlds largest distributed computing network with more than 20,000 servers in 1,000 networks across 71 countries those estimates are excellent. The company showed promise which leads me to buy a substantial amount of stock for my first purchase. The companies I decided to invest in next were Best Buy and Nike, Best Buy is now known as the electronic store powerhouse now that it’s fierce rival Circuit City filled bankruptcy (which now sells refurbished electronics online) Best Buy now has very few competitors. Nike was a very difficult decision for me mainly because I worked for Nikes’ powerhouse seller Footlocker. From my stay with the company I witnessed the company cut several lines of their signature shoes in efforts of saving a dead product. One of Nikes biggest co brand includes the Jordan brand which is a powerhouse in athletic wear. Nikes trend did not show as much promise as best buy but I was optimistic that sales would soar with their company do to simple fact that the holiday season was around the corner. This decision had me buy 100 shares of stock with Nike also. The transactions were a major risk when selecting these companies due to the fact that retail stores are not a guaranteed success from what the market trend showed. For three weeks straight I tracked a positive trend with both companies which led me to believe I made an excellent choice for choosing both companies; then a negative trend became constant and I had no choice but to sell my stock in efforts of restoring the money lost. With retail a failure in my past purchase I decided to jump into a Financial Institution (AIG) in which I looked at the Bloomberg report to see exactly how the company is doing. The Bloomberg report showed that AIG took a huge dip in February their stock was selling for less than $25 a share but made a drastic turnaround and by October the company’s stock was for $40 a share. With this information I felt that the company was rising back to a stable status and this gave me the evidence needed to buy 200 shares of the companies stock. AIG showed me great promise but AIG and Goldman Sacs fell under scrutiny within the media and as a result their stock daily which led me to sell half of my stock. In my efforts to find something different I found Uranium Resources INC which showed great promise. Uranium Resources, Inc founded in 1977 deals with exploration, development, and mining of uranium with sites in South Texas and New Mexico that utilize nuclear power to generate electricity. The company reported a $0. 04 loss in the third quarter of 2009 but has seen positive trends thereafter. When I purchased the stock for the company it had only seen $0. 01 gain for the trading period but since then the company has had great success these few months; and have greatly impacted my portfolio. I also decided to take my money and invest in biotechnology and I found AVI Biopharmaceutical INC. This company specializes in the discovery and development of therapeutic products based on antisense and cancer immunotherapy technology. Their studies help to improve human deterioration of muscles functions. This company was just what I needed to expand in my search for new stock and up and coming technology. I purchased the stock at $1. 84 at which I was very surprised because the company was doing so well in the market at the time. I did manage to sell 50 shares of the company’s stock but I still have shares within this company. I also did some research on Mutual funds in which I followed some of the bigger names and viewed their trend in the market which lead me to Fidelity, FMI, TCW and Yacktman. In my research I found that these four companies were doing very well and consistently showing positive trend with only a few minor negative trends. This led me to believe that these companies would be a secure investment and would hold its value for the remainder of our class duration. Over a months time I discovered that three of the four Funds where suffering daily. In which I had no choice but to sell two of the mutual funds in doing this it freed up space and allowed my portfolio to show an upward trend. When deciding to pick options I looked at my best stocks and decided to open an option on them which included clean energy’s and Google. Clean energy was a risk and it has not shown me anything promising over the past two weeks which leads me to believe that I may have to sell my options in clean energy. Google has done nothing but impress me over the weeks with its positive trends I am considering opening up more options with Google. In conclusion I have had great success when choosing stocks but I’ve also had my share of down falls. My ranking in the class never stayed in a consistent position which kept me active in the market in efforts to find a stable position. By opening up my portfolio and buying clean energy fuel, gold, and bio technology my portfolio has seen a number of positive trends; but this was very difficult mainly because neither was a guaranteed success but they did open opportunities for other stock options.

PR Plan for MS Clothing The WritePass Journal

PR Plan for MS Clothing Introduction PR Plan for MS Clothing ). Audience The audience is potentially one of the hardest things to identify, in terms of this overall PR plan, as Marks Spencers clothing covers such a potentially wider audience. It is suggested in this case, however, that by focusing on ladies wear, the overall agenda for the clothing department can be considered and looked at in the long run (Hackley, 2009). The target audience for this plan therefore is to focus on the fashion conscious, yet affluent 20 – 40 year old category. Attempting to compete with the prices of disposable fashion outlets is simply impractical; therefore, the focus needs to be on the high income a professional, fashionable women who also want their clothes to be excellent quality and durability. Message Linked to the chosen audience is the message that MS clothing products are providing quality, durable essentials that offer a sophisticated and professional look, with a touch of fashion that is not a disposable, cheap fashion product. One of the key problems which have been identified within the MS clothing range in recent years is that the cost of the product has simply not warranted the quality of fashion being provided, and the balance between quality and cost needs to be redressed (Parrish, 2010). Maintaining a strong quality is important. Yet, it is necessary for the fashionable element of the product to be brought to the forefront of this message, and this needs to be delivered clearly to the young, affluent audience. In order to achieve this MS is going to focus on the younger audience by   engaging with young workers and students. Offering discounts and selecting the relevant media publications that aim at these people will be a crucial part of delivering this message.   Communication Strategies Bearing in mind the message and the target audience in question, the choice of communication strategy will be particularly important when it comes to successfully providing this shift in emphasis and new marketing strategy. Given the chosen audience, the communication strategies also need to be aimed at a younger audience, using factors such as the internet and e-mail marketing, in order to portray a younger, more cutting-edge image. Establishing affiliations with third parties and appropriate magazines will also be important for encouraging potential consumers to view Marks Spencer clothing in a slightly different light. Events such as fashion shows and launches of product ranges in locations that are going to be targeting this new audience. Working with Universities and popular work areas in central towns will assist in this matter. Celebrity endorsement is also potentially going to assist in shifting the perceptions of Marks Spencer away from products which are slightly old and staid. By partnering with the appropriate celebrities and also appropriate events, the general perception of the company can be changed, over time, and this needs to be a relatively mid-term agenda for MS. Resource and Budget The overall size of MS and the ability to draw on financial resources from other departments such as the food and home department provides evidence of real opportunities in regard to spending a large amount on this revised PR and marketing approach that would be impossible for other organisations without the backing of these departments. In order to completely reinvent the perception around an organisation the size of MS will require a consistent and large resource, over a relatively prolonged period of time. In addition, however, it is proposed that a six-month time horizon be looked at, with the majority of the focus being placed on shifting the emphasis and eventually reinventing the product range. It is therefore suggested that a team of four marketing professionals should be given the agenda of achieving this plan as part of a specific six-month project (Hallbauer, 2008). Initially, it is proposed that a budget of  £260,000 will be provided on the basis of  £40,000 per month to cover the advertising in key locations and in order to ensure that the manpower is available in every store across the country. It is also recognised that having a strong celebrity endorsement may be very beneficial, the budget may need to be adjusted to reflect this. Evaluation Methods By looking at the current difficulties being faced by the MS clothing range, it can be seen that it is largely attached to the perception of individuals and the demands of the potential target audience. With this in mind, evaluating the marketing and PR agenda will not only involve looking at quantitative figures such as the change in sales, but more crucially at the changing perceptions of customers and potential customers. Also for this reason, at least initially, the necessary way to evaluate the PR agenda will be to undertake an analysis of customer perceptions and satisfaction of products. After the initial six-month period, it is anticipated that there will be shifting sales figures and therefore the evaluation methods used would need to alter to take this into account. It is, however, recognised that this marketing agenda will not completely change the fortunes of the company in a matter of weeks and evaluation methods need to be reflective of this gradual shift, if the agenda is not to be deemed a failure, at a fairly early stage (Newman Cullen, 2002).
